In a bold move that cements its position as a leader in wearable health technology, Sencure has secured a €3.9 million additional investment in its Series B2 funding round, bringing the total B round up to € 7.9 million and its total funding—including non-dilutive sources—to over €15 million in the last 4 years. This milestone marks the dawn of a new era for the Dutch chip tech innovator, whose groundbreaking integrated circuits (ICs) are redefining the landscape of medical wearables.

A Game-Changer in Wearables

At the heart of Sencure’s success is its flagship product, the SNCE800 IC —a high-performance, low-power chip that’s setting new standards for wearable medical devices. After making waves at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, where it received rave reviews, the SNCE800 is poised to power a new generation of wearable health products, from EEG-enabled earbuds and headbands to ECG patches and EMG-based wearables.

Sencure has recently made the decision to move to a new location of it’s R&D office that could accommodate the anticipated growth of the company in the coming years. The other office location of Sencure in Roden remains at the HealthHub.

Why did we decide to move? In short, we have big plans for the future of Sencure and we needed a space that could help our growth. Our current development location in Enschede has served us well over the last years, but as we continue to expand our team, we needed a space that could accommodate our needs.

The new location is located at Palatijn 14, in the heart of the Kennispark, close to the University of Twente, just as the old location. “A deliberate choice,” says Dick van Waes, CEO of Sencure. “We looked for office space on Kennispark because of the connection to the University of Twente and the buzz of innovation that you can almost feel around here.”

A new project aimed at developing a smart shirt for respiratory EMG measurements in children with asthma has received a Eureka Eurostars grant of more than €800,000. Partners from the Netherlands and Denmark will collaborate on the three-year project, which is scheduled to start in 2023. Within the project, Sencure is developing an algorithm to recognize asthma in children and hardware to measure diaphragm EMG. 

Eurostars is a European Union funding program that supports innovative projects in research and development. It is specifically designed to encourage and enhance cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises and research organizations from different countries.

The smart shirt project will use innovative technology to accurately measure respiratory muscle activity in children with asthma, with the aim of improving diagnosis and treatment of the condition. By using a non-invasive method, the smart shirt will be a more comfortable and convenient option for children and their families. Asthma is a common condition that can have a significant impact on a child’s quality of life, and we believe this smart shirt will be a valuable tool to help manage and treat the condition more effectively.

With the grant, project partners will:

• Develop respiratory (EMG) wearables for children to use in and outside the hospital
• Perform a clinical study on children with respiratory disease who are admitted to the hospital
• Use these data to develop predictive algorithms using Machine Learning techniques
• Prepare integration with different hospital and home monitoring systems

The project is expected to make an important contribution in the field of respiratory health and could potentially have a major impact on the lives of children with asthma.
